Altskeith Country House: Scottish Lochside Weddings

Welcome to Altskeith Country House Hotel

I can’t tell you how much I love photographing weddings at Altskeith Country House Hotel. Nestled on the shores of Loch Ard in the Trossachs, this venue is one of the most scenic locations for a wedding in Scotland. With breathtaking views, a relaxed atmosphere, and impeccable hospitality from hosts Alison and Yas, Altskeith House is a dream venue for couples and photographers alike.

A Truly Unique Scottish Wedding Venue

Altskeith House offers something truly special for weddings. Its stunning lochside setting, framed by ancient woodlands and with Ben Lomond towering in the distance, creates a magical backdrop for your special day. Whether it’s a sunny afternoon with sparkling reflections on the water or a misty morning with atmospheric views of the loch, this venue never fails to deliver on beauty.

But it’s not just the views that make Altskeith House so memorable. Alison and Yas go above and beyond to ensure every wedding is relaxed, personal, and perfectly executed. Their attention to detail and warm, friendly approach make everyone feel at ease, allowing couples and their guests to focus on enjoying the day.

Amazing Scottish Wedding Venue

Back to those views, Loch Ard is beautiful, surrounded by a forest, with Ben Lomond towering in the distance. This is shown in the picture at the top of this page.

This fantastic wedding venue is close to where I live, and the many weddings I have photographed here have been unique. Each couple, their family and friends bring something different, making good use of the beautiful grounds and excellent inside space.

Where Is Altskeith Country House?

Located on the scenic lochside road from Aberfoyle, Altskeith House is ideally situated within Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park. Despite its tranquil setting, it’s less than an hour’s drive from Glasgow, making it easily accessible for guests traveling from across Scotland and beyond.

It’s no surprise that couples from all over the UK—and even further afield—choose Altskeith House as their wedding venue. The combination of natural beauty, convenient location, and exceptional service makes it an unbeatable choice for a wedding in Scotland.

Photographing Weddings at Altskeith Country House

As a wedding photographer, I’ve had the privilege of capturing many incredible weddings at Altskeith House. Each one has been unique, reflecting the personalities of the couples and their loved ones. The venue’s versatile indoor and outdoor spaces provide endless opportunities for stunning photography.

The grounds are a photographer’s dream, with lush gardens, the shimmering waters of Loch Ard, and breathtaking views of Ben Lomond. Indoors, the beautifully designed spaces offer a cosy yet elegant setting for ceremonies and receptions. Whether it’s a sunny day or a rainy one, there’s always a perfect spot to capture unforgettable moments.

Ben Lomond and Rowing Boat Adventures

One of the standout features of Altskeith House is the opportunity for newlyweds to venture onto Loch Ard in a rowing boat. On calm weather days, this is an absolute highlight of the wedding day. The serene waters, framed by views of Ben Lomond and the venue itself, make for some of the most iconic and romantic wedding photographs.

Rowing out onto the loch isn’t just about the photos—it’s also a chance for couples to enjoy a quiet moment together, soaking in the beauty of their surroundings and the joy of their day.

Ben Lomond Views

On good weather days when the loch is calm newly married couples can even get on Loch Ard by rowing boat for amazing views of Ben Lomond and Altskeith House. For me this is a real highlight of the wedding and what helps to make Altskeith House unique as a venue for wedding photography.

Making the Most of Altskeith House

Every wedding I’ve photographed at Altskeith has been filled with laughter and memorable moments. Couples and their guests make great use of the venue’s stunning grounds, whether it’s for a lively drinks reception, group photos, or simply taking in the views.

The indoor spaces are equally impressive, offering a stylish and comfortable setting for ceremonies, dinners, and dancing. No matter the weather, Altskeith House ensures your day is seamless and unforgettable.

A Venue for All Seasons

While Altskeith House shines on sunny days, it’s also a fantastic choice for autumn and winter weddings. The vibrant colours of the surrounding forests in autumn and the atmospheric mists over Loch Ard in winter create a magical setting that’s perfect for photography.

The venue’s cosy indoor spaces are ideal for creating an intimate and warm atmosphere, making it a great choice no matter the time of year.
