Isle of Arran Photography

Glen Rosa, Isle of Arran

Glen Rosa, Arran

Arran is one of my favourite places in Scotland, and we are frequent visitors to the island. This blog represents an ongoing project to capture photography of the island during visits. Hopefully, it will be helpful to you if you are planning a trip to Arran and are looking for some photography locations. Here are some photographs of my favourite places around the Isle of Arran.

Glen Rosa

We start this collection of photographs of Arran at Glen Rosa (above), a beautiful spot just a short walk from a parking area outside Brodick.

Lamlash, Isle of Arran

Lamlash, Isle of Arran

Lamlash

Lamlash is one of the largest villages on Arran, just 3 miles from Brodick and the main ferry terminal for the island. There you can see good views over to the nearby Holy Isle. To capture the photograph at the top of the blog and the one below, I set an early morning alarm to ensure I was up for sunrise. Luckily, I stayed across the road, which allowed me to go back to bed afterwards, with another alarm set for breakfast.

Kings Cross

There are more views of the Holy Isle from Kings Cross. Park at Whiting Bay and take a walk close to the play park.

Eas Mor and Loch Garbad

Walk to the eco library by the waterfall at Eas Mor, close to Kildonan, a beach with views of Ailsa Craig in the distance. Back in the library, you can pin a message or a drawing to the wall.

Lochranza, Isle of Arran

Lochranza

Lochcranza

Lochranza is a small village at the northern end of Arran. The 16th-century castle is in ruins there, and nearby you’ll find the alternative ferry route for the island, linking with Kintyre, plus an excellent distillery.

Corrie, Isle of Arran

Corrie, Arran

Corrie

Another small Arran coastal village is Corrie which has a harbour.

Goat Fell and Brodick, Isle of Arran

Goatfell view from Brodick, Arran

Brodick

The main village for the island has excellent views of nearby Goat Fell, the highest point on the island.

Brodick Castle, Isle of Arran

Brodick Castle

Also in Brodick is the castle, operated by the National Trust, one of their major properties, hosting regular events. The castle grounds are excellent, with a red squirrel trail; the reds prosper well on the island because there are no grey squirrels on Arran.
